Barbara had a suitcase full of troubles in life: failed relationships, struggles with jobs, unreliable cars and childcare issues. On top of all that, she never graduated from high school. One day, while meeting with her GoodPartner Coach (a free life coach offered to all Goodwill employees), her coach asked Barbara if she had ever been told that she had educational disabilities during her school years. She told her coach that she had.
Barbara’s coach recommended that she look into the program operated by Ave Maria Preparatory School (now The McKay Academy) in conjunction with Goodwill. This program was funded by a scholarship for people who qualified, and she could take some of her classes while on the clock at work at Goodwill. Then, at the end of the program Barbara would have a state issued High School Diploma with all the recognition that would afford. Barbara enrolled, worked very hard and was able to graduate with a recognized State of Florida High School Diploma.
Her family was proud of her and travelled miles just to show up at her graduation ceremonies--what excitement at her achievement as she stood up at graduation and thanked her family for their support of her efforts.
Now Barbara could realize some of her dreams thanks to completion of the program she participated in sponsored by Goodwill…it’s what we do!
