Bethany arrived at our Job Connection office promptly at 8:00 am looking tired and frustrated. She explained that she recently moved to Florida at her sister’s request, only to find out that her sister is an alcoholic, who gets violent when she is drinking.
She met with her Career Development Facilitator to discuss her employment history and what kind of job she wanted, and also explained that she is interested in getting her GED. Her career facilitator suggested she apply at Goodwill Manasota which also offers both GED classes and tuition reimbursement.
Bethany’s career facilitator assisted her in creating a resume, showed her how to conduct an online job search and taught her how to download and upload her resume. She spent the next several days at the Job Connection office working with the Mission Support Specialist filling out online applications. Bethany also received interview coaching and a voucher to obtain interview attire.
She later interviewed and was offered a position at Goodwill, and began working the following week. When Bethany’s grandmother saw how hard she was working, she decided to allow Bethany to move into her home, so she could move out of the Salvation Army’s shelter.
Bethany is excited to now have time to work on her education and is going to start GED classes soon. She plans on eventually attending Manatee Technical College and thanks Goodwill for being there for her during her time of crisis.
