CeeCee was a College Professor in music in her native country. She had no thoughts of leaving her job, home or family, but no matter how hard CeeCee worked, she knew she would never be able to earn a decent salary. Putting food on the table and having a few things to wear was all she could afford, and many times that was a struggle. Watching her family going without and knowing that there was no opportunity or real future for her daughter, CeeCee and her husband made the decision to leave their country and come to the United States.
First, her husband came to the US, got a job, settled in his new country and sent for his family. Leaving her elderly parents behind was the hardest thing to do, but she knew that if she came to the US and worked hard, she would be able to send her parents money so they could have it easier and not have to struggle as they were doing now.
When she and her daughter first arrived in the US, CeeCee and her family lived in a small apartment. Soon, CeeCee got a job at Goodwill and met her GoodPartner Coach, a free life coach offered to all Goodwill Manasota Team Members, who enrolled her in ESOL (Engligh for speakers of other languages) classes. She attended the classes and every day she worked on learning her new language. Soon she learned to drive, took her driver’s test, received her license, and bought reliable transportation. Her coach explained all about obtaining credit in the US and the importance of paying everything on time and not overspending on unnecessary items.
CeeCee also helped her family back home by sending a little extra money. Thanks to the guidance and advice from her GoodPartner Coach, CeeCee and her family were also able to buy their own house. CeeCee is grateful for the opportunity that she got when she came to work for Goodwill. Helping people get ahead is what we do here at GOODWILL.
