When Jill lived in Tampa, she was addicted to drugs and got arrested for possession several times. She decided she needed a change so she moved to Sarasota for a new start. Once she was away from her past life, she was finally able to get herself off the drugs, but in doing that, her dependence on alcohol greatly increased.
Jill needed a job but she was afraid no one would hire her because of her alcoholism. She applied to Goodwill not thinking anything would come of it, and was excited to find that they took a chance on her. A few months into her employment she spoke to her GoodPartner Coach (a free life coach assigned to all Goodwill employees) and said, “Please help me, I don’t want to drink anymore.” Her Coach immediately found her an AA meeting and made sure she attended the following day. The first day was very difficult. Her withdrawal symptoms were severe. However, she lasted the night without drinking and went to another AA meeting the next morning. Jill continues to attend her AA meetings and hasn’t had a drink since.
Jill is forever grateful to Goodwill for giving her a second chance. She has been sober for a month now and is finally happy and has hope for her future. Jill said to her GoodPartner Coach: “Thank you so much. I probably would have died had it not been for Goodwill.” Her Coach responded: “You are welcome. It’s what we do here at Goodwill.”
