SARASOTA/BRADENTON, FL – Goodwill Manasota recently received 140 personal computers from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office as a donation to its Tech Connection Program. The computers will be securely wiped, refurbished and sold at the Tech Connection center located in the Goodwill Ranch Lake retail store (8750 State Road 70 East, Lakewood Ranch).

“The men and women of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office appreciate the commitment Goodwill has to our community – we knew that this is where we wanted to donate these computers,” said Sheriff Tom Knight “This program gives individuals the opportunity to purchase computers at discounted prices while increasing their digital literacy. We are pleased to support Goodwill as it works to change lives.”

“Before the inception of the Tech Connection center, we were always in search of new ways to bring digital literacy to our community,” said Bob Rosinsky, president and CEO of Goodwill Manasota. “This innovative program has allowed us to divert more items from local landfills while strengthening our local community through employment and digital literacy. This extremely generous donation is a great testament to the success and necessity of this program, and we are proud to call the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office partners in our community.”

After computers are donated to Goodwill Manasota, the systems are securely wiped to thoroughly erase any personal data that may remain. If the systems are viable, including dual core machines that can run Windows 7, the computers are given a 3-path DOD wipe, which means systems are written over three times. Goodwill, which is a licensed Microsoft Registered Refurbisher, also provides the Microsoft Digital Literacy curriculum on all computers available for sale.
