Shapiro Charitable Foundation grantSARASOTA/BRADENTON, FL – Goodwill Manasota recently received a grant of $15,000 from the Harry Shapiro Charitable Foundation earmarked for Goodwill’s SERV fund, which is operated under the auspices of Goodwill’s Veterans Services Program. The SERV fund, which stands for Special Emergency Resources for Veterans, helps veterans in need of immediate financial assistance for housing, transportation, food, clothing and more.

“We are humbled by the generosity of the late Harry Shapiro and his lovely wife, Grace, who chose to present this money for very worthy causes in our community,” said Veronica Brandon Miller, vice president of the Goodwill Manasota Foundation. “In 2015, our Veterans Services Program assisted more than 350 veterans in our community; it is through the support and generosity of organizations like the Harry Shapiro Charitable Foundation that we are able to serve those who need our help.”

The Harry Shapiro Charitable Foundation was founded in 2015 to honor Harry Shapiro, a Punta Gorda resident and Navy veteran. His memory is honored through donations to causes that he cared about during his lifetime.

“Mrs. Shapiro wished to honor her husband in a way that would have a positive effect on our local community. When she heard about the SERV program, she immediately knew he would have wanted her to support its work,” said Susan Miller, Sabadell Bank & Trust vice president/senior trust officer. “As a co-trustee of the Harry Shapiro Charitable Foundation, I would like to recognize and applaud Goodwill’s efforts and impact in this community, especially as they help veterans, a cause Mr. Shapiro found important and necessary.”

Goodwill Manasota’s Veterans Services Program helps eliminate barriers to employment and provides opportunities for higher-paying positions for veterans and their families, as well as connects veterans with crucial social services and support to help them re-integrate into their families, communities and jobs.
