Zakat is calculated from the following sources of income:  Each Muslim must pay Zakat on his wealth (gold and silver coins), savings, and earnings.  However the following are excluded from Zakat calculation:    (i)  House and building (ii)  The basic necessities of life (iii)  Tools of trade and profession (iv)  The savings of the needy (v)  Prisoners (vi)  And a few other items.  In short, Zakat is not calculated on wealth of the following categories:    (a)  Waqf    (b)  Capital lost.    (c)  Inheritance    (d)  Ordinary earnings (e)  State pensions (f)  Interest of savings Zakat foundation Pakistan
