Initiative Vet

Veterans & their Families Program

Goodwill is one of the first organizations to respond to the multitude of challenges faced by veterans, their families, and the families of those who serve on active duty.

This initiative focuses on providing services to accommodate returning veterans facing heightened risks of unemployment, personal problems, and homelessness. We are developing alliances with community partners to maximize resources and avoid duplication of services in order to help transition our veterans into employment aligned with their vocational goals. The American Veterans and Their Families Program helps eliminate barriers to employment and will provide opportunities for higher paying positions for veterans and their families.

We provide comprehensive case management and vocational services that address barriers to employment, disabilities, housing, transportation, mental health issues, education or training needed to succeed in the workplace and access to other support services. Yoga for Veterans

Garden of the Heart Yoga Center of Sarasota teaches our Warriors at Ease, a specialty yoga class for veterans -- Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30pm in the Community Room of the Goodwill Mecca Street location. Participating veterans say the program has been extraordinary and after becoming inundated with requests for the pilot program to continue, we are thrilled to announce that this program has been added as a continuing component of our Veteran's Program.

The Warriors at Ease program was developed in collaboration with the Department of Defense for veterans, especially those suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury, combat stress and depression. The class is open to all veterans and their immediate family members, free of charge.
