Finding New Beginnings: Margaret’s Inspiring Journey at Goodwill
Introduction
Margaret’s story is one of resilience, determination, and the unwavering spirit of a woman who has faced life’s challenges head-on. For 18 years, Margaret dedicated her life in Kissimmee, to raising her son Jacob and supporting her husband of 25 years, who worked full-time as a plumber and pipefitter. Throughout this journey, Margaret encountered numerous obstacles due to her disability, but she never allowed challenges to define her. Instead, she embraced her kindness and compassion, always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need.
A New Chapter Begins
As time marched on and Jacob grew older, Margaret felt the call for a new chapter in her life. The transition from being a homemaker to seeking employment is never an easy decision, but Margaret was ready for change. She made the brave choice to move to Venice, prompting her to embark on a new journey that would eventually lead her to Goodwill.
Margaret initially took a position at Planet Fitness, working overnight shifts. However, after a year and a half, she realized that this role wasn’t the right fit for her. She set out to find something that aligned better with her passions and strengths. It was during this phase of exploration that she came across an opening at Goodwill Rialto for a sales floor position.
Taking the Leap
Excitement and anticipation filled Margaret as she applied online. Shortly after, she received a call from Stephanie for an interview. Both nervous and thrilled, she prepared to meet with Peter, the TLC at the time, and Stephanie during her interview. With hard work and determination, Margaret impressed them, leading to a job offer on the spot. On June 15, 2020, she embarked on her new journey by officially joining the Goodwill family during orientation in Bradenton at the Corporate Campus office.
Growth and Opportunities at Goodwill
Margaret’s story did not stop there. Her commitment to her work and her compassion for others shone through, propelling her in her new role. Two years later, she was recognized for her hard work and promoted to Key Holder—a role she embraced with pride for another two years. However, recognizing what truly made her happiest, Margaret chose to return to her cashier role, a decision made with clarity and confidence in her abilities.
Despite the hurdles she faced due to her disability, Goodwill provided Margaret with the platform to grow, learn, and thrive. Margaret loves her job and is deeply grateful that Goodwill saw her potential beyond her disability and gave her the opportunity to thrive.
The Heart of Goodwill
Margaret’s story is a shining example of how providing individuals with opportunities can lead to transformative change in their lives. It exemplifies the heart of Goodwill’s mission: to empower individuals through job training and employment opportunities, regardless of the challenges they face. As a company, Goodwill believes in the power of second chances and recognizes that everyone deserves a pathway to success.
In Margaret’s case, her story is not just about her personal growth but also a testament to how the Goodwill community comes together to support and uplift each individual. With teamwork, dedication, and the collective effort of staff and patrons, Goodwill has successfully created an environment where inclusivity and empowerment can flourish.
