Fifteen months after joining Goodwill, Mariela stepped into a Keyholder role, turning an entry-level position into the foundation for long-term career growth. She started with a pricing gun and a rack of donated items at the Gulfstream store. What followed was a very intentional investment in her future.
Starting Point: Learning the Basics
After relocating, Mariela transferred to the Boynton GGC store and stepped into a Sorter/Hanger role. Then a conversation changed everything. She connected with a Good Partner Coach, a resource Goodwill provides to help team members set career goals and build a clear path forward. The coaching went beyond daily tasks, focusing instead on long-term development and exactly what Mariela would need to move up.
A Turning Point: Coaching and Career Direction
First came the Role Model Worker program. Together, Mariela and her coach explored what the program recognizes: consistent performance, demonstrated leadership on the floor, and a commitment to showing up with purpose. Mariela delivered. Supervisors noticed, and recognition followed.
Stepping Up: Recognition and Growth
From there, she kept asking questions about advancement at Goodwill, about which skills would make a difference, about how to keep building toward bigger goals. That sustained drive paid off. In January 2026, Mariela was promoted to Keyholder at the Boca West store, stepping into expanded responsibility for daily operations.
Looking Ahead: Building a Future
The promotion matters on its own, but it’s also part of something larger. Mariela’s long-term goal is to become a nurse. Right now, Goodwill is where that foundation is being built.
